From the desk of NCSY Alumni Director - Rabbi Dave Felsenthal

I have just returned from the OU Convention in Jerusalem, I wanted to share with you some of my recent experiences there. The OU Convention was an exciting, whirlwind event with incredible speakers from all areas of religious and political life. The convention also afforded me the opportunity to experience first hand the wonderful programming the OU Israel Center offers. I visited a public school in Tiberias named Nofrim where the OU Israel Center runs wonderful Jewish informal education for the entire school similar to our public school clubs in North America. When our group walked into the school we were greeted by an ovation from the appreciative students and staff.

NCSY Alumni Reunion
600 Gather for NCSY Alumni Reunion Melave Malka in Jerusalem

We had 149 reservations, set up the ball room for 300 thinking it might look empty and were blown away by the awesome response as 600 attended the Alumni Reunion Melave Malka.  Phil Chernofsky and Isabelle Novak shared their NCSY stories, Rabbi Burg gave a kumsitz story as a small crowd sat on the floor by his feet and hundreds of old friends reacquainted over blintzes, crepes and make your own ice cream Sundays. But, by far the highlight was the rocking performances by NCSY legends Howie Kahn (60’s) Alan Freishtat (70’s) and Lenny Solomon (80’s). There was both lively dancing and arm in arm havdallah style, and when Lenny finished with Hit Me – I knew I was back in high school all over again! Thank you to Lenny Solomon and Sara Beth and Rabbi Ari Solomont for putting together an evening that will keep us warm all winter long. I hope to see many more of you this Februray 16-18 in New Jersey featuring the reunion of Ruach revival!
